Melbourne, August 15, 2025 – In a moment of immense pride for the Indian diaspora, the Indian tricolor was hoisted for the very first time in the history of Maribyrnong Council, Australia, marking a historic milestone in the celebration of India’s Independence Day abroad.
The event was a grand and emotional occasion, where members of the Indian community came together to honor India’s 79th Independence Day. Serving as a distinguished guest, Mr. Ravi Sharma, President of Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha Inc. Australia, graced the event with his presence. He expressed heartfelt emotions on this proud achievement, stating that “this historic flag hoisting at Maribyrnong Council is the first of its kind across all councils of Australia, and it is a matter of great pride for the entire Indian community.”
The flag hoisting was carried out jointly by Consul General Dr. Sushil Kumar, Mayor of Maribyrnong Council Mr. Pradeep Tiwari, and community representative Nath Bhavana Puri. The event not only reflected patriotism but also strengthened the bond of cultural unity between India and Australia.
As part of the ceremony, Mr. Ravi Sharma honored Mayor Pradeep Tiwari for his remarkable contribution and support in making this historic event possible. The stage proceedings were skillfully conducted by Ms. Pramila Tandon, whose eloquence added grace to the occasion.
Meanwhile, the spirit of Independence was equally vibrant in India, where Poonam Foundation organized a special program titled “Tiranga – Ek Samman” in Jaipur. The event witnessed the presence of Mr. Rajeev Kashyap, India In-Charge of Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha Inc. Australia, along with Mr. Vinod Sharma, Rajasthan In-Charge. Both dignitaries represented the Mahasabha and expressed their commitment to upholding national pride and unity.
